What to expect

The male pelvic floor evaluation begins with a discussion about your symptoms, history, and the impact the problem has had on your life. Then we proceed to the physical exam. This consists of general observation of your movement patterns, such as a forward bend and squat, and alignment, to detect any issues in the greater area that may influence your symptoms. The pelvic floor exam consists of palpation of the external pelvic floor, at the low abdomen, groin, inner thighs, perineum and genitals, as needed. This, along with all of the exam, is performed ONLY with your full and informed consent. If necessary, an internal assessment of the pelvic floor muscles will be performed, which is done rectally. If you are not comfortable with an internal assessment, it is not mandatory.
